Today in Geneva, on behalf of the Italian government, Minister for Labour and Social Policies, Marina Calderone, formally delivered the instrument of ratification of the 2014 Protocol relating to International Labour Organisation (ILO) Convention no. 29 on Forced Labour.

With this document, Italy officially completes its ratification of all the fundamental ILO legislative instruments, consolidating and strengthening its full support for the international system of labour standards.

"The delivery of this instrument of ratification clearly and tangibly confirms Italy's front-line commitment to promoting the fundamental principles of labour and human rights", Minister Calderone declared on the sidelines of the ceremony. "In a profoundly complex international context, marked by radical transformations in the labour market and the emergence of new vulnerabilities, we believe it is essential to forcefully reaffirm a fundamental principle: forced labour cannot and must not have any place in our economies, our value chains or our societies". The Minister concluded by saying that "the Italian government's determination to firmly combat all forms of exploitation, coercion and abuse can be clearly seen here today. We will continue to work resolutely to promote decent work, legality and social justice, both nationally and globally, alongside international institutions and social partners".
